Collection

Definition: If a borrower falls behind on their scheduled payments, the lender attempts to contact them in attempt to bring the loan current. When this occurs, the account is considered to have gone to “collection.” In this effort to bring the loan current, the lender generally will mail as well as record certain documents in preparation for further action; in the case of mortgage loans “further action” can include eventual foreclosure on the property.
